Dosage Calculator Overview

The Dosage Calculator gives your team fast, weight-based medication dosing in the field, using values your department configures.

Clinical responsibility

Every medication, concentration, and dosing rule in the calculator is entered and maintained by your department. Verify all configured values against your current protocols and medical direction. The calculator is a reference aid — it does not replace clinical judgment, your protocols, or medical control.

Where It's Used​

  • Field personnel use the calculator in the mobile app. Team members select a patient size or weight and get calculated doses for your department's medications
  • The dashboard is where you configure it. Admins manage the underlying medications, concentrations, dosing rules, patient sizes, and protocols under Entity Management → Dosage Calculator, and can preview exactly what members will see with the Preview calculator button

Availability​

The Dosage Calculator is enabled per department. If you don't see Dosage Calculator in the Entity Management section of your sidebar, the feature isn't enabled for your department — contact ResponderOne to discuss turning it on.

Permissions

Using the calculator requires the View Dosage Calculator permission (included in the built-in Member role for enabled departments). Configuring it requires Manage Dosage Calculator.

The Building Blocks​

Configuration lives in three places, and they build on each other:

  1. Patient Size Categories - The pediatric weight/size classes (and adult categories) that dosing is calculated against
  2. Protocols - Your clinical protocols (e.g., Cardiac Arrest), each optionally linked to reference documents from your Documents library
  3. Medications - Each medication with its concentrations and its pediatric/adult dosing rules, tagged to protocols

The Dosage Calculator overview page in the dashboard shows a status pill — Setup needed until at least one patient size category and one medication exist, then Calculator Ready — along with total entries and when the configuration was last updated.
